openSUSE Tumbleweed KDE Plasma 6.1.2 is by far better - change my mind (I also used Mint, but then I grew up) edit: I admit, Mint has cool (pun intended) wallpapers but thats it really.
you are the best person I know on RUclips 😊😊😊😊😊
13:54 He said the meme! Everybody take a shot!
I usually wait at least a few weeks or more before taking on the latest distro of anything. I learned a very long time ago that being any kind of early adopter is not for me. My single biggest value is stability.
Lmde would probably be more up your alley then although Linux Mint any version. Is usually the perfect happy medium versus dealing with bleeding edge distros that always have the newest whatever
Pika backup is better than timeshift and it's more intuitive
Pika is not designed for a system recovery or system backup is designed for personal data backup versus time shift is designed for system restore not designed for personal data backup Each software tool has its pros and cons. But it is important to understand what your backing up and what's the best tool for the job
@@motoryzen that's a great point, thanks for the nugget
They really always have nice wallpapers
I tried it on bare metal twice. I had to go back to 21.3 because the Invidia driver install did not work / made the display unusable. In addition, there are problems with fuse2 and fuse in general that prevent running some appimages. I really hope this is fixed. I love 21.3.
Great video im looking forward to the release of LMDE 7 not in a hurry though i only just finished updating all my devices to LMDE 6 😂
lmde 7 will come with debian 13, so it'll be another 1-2 years at least
Ive found that Font Manager in the software manager is sooooooooo much better than font viewer when it comes to installing fonts.
Cool! I will have a look.
Why would you need different languages for an operating system? Doesn't Firefox have its own language packages to translate websites?
that GNU hat is dope!
Great preview but the one I'm really waiting for will be the LMDE version
When you ere messing with the "actions" and re-arranging, the reason it didn't work was because you never clicked "SAVE".
I did not mess with them in this video. Please check the previous video, where I clearly demonstrate and error with the actions sorting. Even though the save button is pressed, it still did not adjust the menu accordingly.
Please suggest which option is better: 1) upgrading from 21.3 to 22 2) fresh install of 22 Thanks before 🙏🏼
Wait for it to be tested a bit
Wait a few weeks after the full release then upgrading is probably fine.
Amazing
Either LM needs to ship less themes by default or make the UI easier to handle with a lot of themes (maybe in a windows 7 kinda style), I definitely agree with the idea of splitting them up into packages so you can remove what you don't use even if it was still installed by default
I'll wait until the official release when all of the bugs are fixed.
Do you think there is a market for bespoke CRMs?
can you make PopOS to look like Mint?
No wayland no care
Wayland is still experimental. You can test it if you like.
@@SwitchedtoLinux yeah I did, nowhere near ready, simply not an option for me right now
Well of course Weiland is not ready yet in Linux mint. Clem and his team even said themselves before mint beta 22 even launched that it wouldn't be ready for at least another year if not longer. Waylon's not even ready and other distros yet Siri there are still some basic pieces of functionality that don't even work
I don't know how many more times I have to post this comment before stupid Google RUclips will finally show it but here tries a third time. Of course Wayland is not ready yet in Linux Mint. Clem and his team even said so themselves that it would not be ready for prime time machines for at least another year if not longer Waylon isn't even radio on other distros if you want to get technical because there are still some basic pieces of functionality that don't yet work in Wayland
i really like green and black color combinations and it was part of the reason i chose Mint over other distros. i was pretty shocked when i found out that they changed the default color to blue.
after a very long time I am installing Linux Mint 21 on a Intel i3.
Google Chrome Flatpack 1GB to be downloaded and 3GB disk space required is getting silly. There are still full operating system below 1GB that include full office and browser.
I agree that some Flatpaks are ridiculous in size, but who in their right mind would want to use Chrome anyhow?
AI START IN 1956 "On this day in 1956, the MANIAC in Los Alamos chess. Playing a simplified 6x6 " Then we got this anti-virus programs a form of AI. Text to Speech Program is a form of AI , Speech dictation. The large model we're playing with right now are more or less just a over complicated matching game. Just because it can talk to you like your girlfriend does not mean it has any real intelligence. What about our AI overlords? Are they coming? Yes, no. Yes, someday we may actually figure out how to do that. No, we'd probably not be around on the planet long enough to get there.
X11? Mint will get Wayland in 2050.
Scheduled for Mint 23 I think, maybe 24.
Some people are saying that Mint looks ugly out of the box, and I can understand them. It looks totally different from modern Windows or macOS. However, design the only thing I found questionable (it's also a subjective topic...). Even so, you can customize Cinnamon and make it look whatever you want it to be. Hell, I even made it look like Ubuntu, but with custom icons. Overall, I feel like Mint is THE Linux distro for Windows refugees. Similar design, one of the easiest distros to use + based on Ubuntu, but doesn't have controversial stuff from Canonical (like Snaps). For those who want modern design and auto-tiling (like in window managers), I think Pop!_OS is also a solution... once the 24.04 is released with COSMIC DE. It doesn't look like Windows though.
As a long time Windows user who just switched to Linux Mint 3+ weeks ago I think Cinnamon looks fine. Granted, there are more fancy looking desktops out there for Linux, but it is functional and not that hard to adjust to your liking. Windows has not had a consistent UI since the Windows XP days and Windows 11 is way too strict in terms of customisation to be usable for me. The fact that it forces the bottom taskbar to stay there makes it absolutely useless for my ultra-widescreen that I use the sides of the screen to attach my software. For certain software I need the taskbar out of the way as to not obstruct the UI, but Windows 11 is not designed for modern screen dimensions by forcing things on to the user. It's for good reason I've stayed on Windows 10. Mint may look more 2010s in style, but there is enough customisation that you at least find something you like more or less. If there is a demand to make the GUI more modern then the devs at least seem to be willing to adapt.
@@Frozen_Death_Knight I think cinnamon desktop is great too. Easy to customise and not to over the top I remember when I first switched to linux and was recommended ubuntu granted it worked ok but I could never get used to the unity desktop it give me mac os vibes but once I started using linux mint I've never looked back I use the debian edition now. Hope your transition went well
@@LinuxLoader1287 Yeah, for the most part. Though it would have been a lot smoother if 22 had already been released, haha. The biggest issue I had was with audio production, or audio at all for that matter. My Roland Super UA-S10 audio interface just didn't work whatsoever and I had to manually install Pipewire and Wireplumber for my audio server to make it work, which was hard to find any info about. Ripping out the old system for the one that is going to be shipped in 22 made my audio hardware work flawlessly on Mint, which would have saved me several hours of trying to troubleshoot things. At least it works now, which is a lot better than it not working at all. I've had bumps on the road, but most have been manageable. The only real showstopper left is having Affinity/Adobe art and image editor software to work properly on Linux and sadly that is the biggest gap left that I need to fill by dual booting to Windows 10 still. I really hope there will be a viable solution soon. :)
My wifi and bluetooth don't work with the 22 beta. Also having install fails with the applets.
@switched to linux - please consider uploading these live streams as a podcast! Love these features :)
I've been using pop os and manjaro but linux mint os my favorite still it would great to see a a server version of linux mint and different desktop style like gnome or plasma
You could just install LMDE and remove all the graphical programs
an anemic version. And they will mess up important portions of the system with this update
I've never really understood why there are so many built in wallpapers with each release. I would have thought that most people would just download wallpapers of their choice from the internet or simply use a personal photo as a background. That personal quibble aside, this looks like yet another solid release. I would like to see Wayland integration sped up a tad though.
I need Latin for a spell check option...but German is my second language...
Literally the day after I put 21.3 on another machine I find out about this… will 21 just update itself from within itself or require a full blown install over like many distros do on a big new number version :edit: mint team confirmed 21.3 will easily update to 22!
you can update from 21.3 to 22.x it’s been confirmed by the linux mint team
I know this is Linux Mint but I have always disliked the green. Don't know why.
I'm also not a green person. Not my color. Never liked the green either. Glad we are getting a variety of colors.
@@jschudel777 I am also quite pleased with the variety of colors. Linux Mint has really become super solid. When first-time linux users ask me for a distro recommendation, my defacto response is always Linux Mint. 👌
Does it have higher PC specs?
Linux Mint devs supports Palestine .. not good man
Get a life. Seriously.
Even though I like Cinnamon, I do miss Mint KDE
Sudo apt install kde-plasma-desktop
@@Milena-ix5mq I know. Just pointed out that I miss it officially supported
@@e002840 I never knew it was supported in the first place 😕 welp, I don't really use Mint, but I also feel disappointed now
There's a BUG in verification module in appshop. All flatpaks are UNVERIFIED sign😂❤ but all works properly. Best BETA i tested
Mint is my flavor
alot of people use arch linux and a communist society would not allow for femboys so this is false
Why linux mint has to be so ugly out of the box 😭
Matter of opinion. I like it. I use Mint on 3 PCs at home and it's not modded.
@@Vlado709 The mint menu is the most hideous out there! I don't understand why they dont use xfce's version of it, a much more compact and eye pleasing
I like the clean look.. only problem is the Firefox icon in the taskbar. Sooooo ugly
For me I use the elegance theme, ultra flat icons and transparent panels to make it look beautiful.
@@Петар1xfce suck i love cinnamon its like windows
Security is an often brought up point, and I'm slowly realizing the Linux community is maybe a little paranoid. I recognize that malicious software exists for all OS, but as someone who's very much in the loop is there a genuine high risk for malicious code from the software managers? It seems like the constant checks and balances from people like you and other software developers minimizes the risk tremendously.
Another one who doesn't understand Linux and BSD!
Downplaying the security of your PC can be easy until the day you sit there trying to salvage whatever you can as you lose control over your entire system. Of course there's also personal responsibility involved, but if you're able to prevent a lot of headaches by having some simple barriers for the average Joe, then it is worth it if you ask me.
@@DCM777. And your input is useful?
@@Frozen_Death_KnightI do get it, but at what point is it enough? If a bad actor wants in, short of never connecting to the Internet it's not stoppable. Linux doesn't have very good antivirus to begin with, and since everything is mostly open source assuming you get it from the source where does the unnecessary risk start?
@@squat224 Yup.
I've been liking my LMDE for a while though I'm thinking about hopping to SparkyLinux XFCE. Anyone been following the news with OpenSUSE declaring a purge of "the rotten flesh" from their user base and NixOS declaring a purge "Nazis" from their spaces? Reckon this'll spread to other Linux distros too?
Wow, thanks for sharing this! Will definitely avoid those distros.
MX Linux and AntiX are pretty far to the left side of things too.
@@CaptainYourselfisn't MX neutral? i know the antiX guys work on it but i haven't seen statements directly by MXLinux
@@noot1337 Exactly, the devs work on both. So I don’t trust or support either, regardless if they haven’t made the same public statements or inserted the same c*mmun*st links in the browser as they do on AntiX.
It's often intriguing to see how a power user views changes to things. Personally, I don't mind that there are so many options for the UI appearance. I do blue collar work, so my PC is for entertainment first and almost never for work, so I like it to look fun and playful after a long day of toiling at work. I'm just happy that linux has advanced beyond basic computing and ventured towards being a real windows competitor. Looking forward to the new update, I have a feeling some of the stability issues I've had may be kernel related and I'm keen to see if I still have as much freezing and crashing with the new version.
Same here. I use my PC for gaming and movies, with a bit of authoring short books here and there. I only keep Windows around for a handful of triple-A games and use Linux for retro and indie games and movies along with my usual PC stuff.
The big question is, how will Cinnamon Desktop continue to exist when things move further and further away from GTK3? Many many many programs in Cinnamon are built for that. Specifically.
Mint is forking GTK3 to keep it alive. GTK4 (especially libadwaita) is very GNOME-centric and makes pretty much zero effort to make it a good experience on other DEs
